This hybrid talk will take place in room 0.5 of the FTL Building, USI West Campus and online via Zoom. If you are interested in joining it online, please write to events.isfi(a)usi.ch

Here is the abstract of the talk:
Is it possible to find ordinary objects, in a relativistic world? And if yes, to what extent and at what cost? In this paper, we discuss the problem of relativistic change and how it threatens our received view of ordinary objects. More precisely, we will show how the problem arises, given two metaphysics of persistence, i.e., 4- and 3-dimensionalism, thus generalizing a formulation due to Sattig (2015). Finally, we will assess different strategies and evaluate their costs.

REMINDER: CfA Summer School Syntax, Truth, and Paradox (Lugano, Switzerland)
by events.isfi@usi.ch
The Summer School Syntax, Truth, and Paradox will take place at USI, Lugano (Switzerland) from 17 to 21 June 2024 and will be taught by Volker Halbach (University of Oxford) and Lorenzo Rossi (University of Turin).
Deadline for applications: February 15, 2024
A map through the land of dragons: Truth, knowledge, necessity, and other notions central to philosophy are haunted by the paradoxes. Philosophers have discussed the liar paradox since antiquity, not only in the Western tradition. In this summer school, we discuss the origins and formal analysis of the paradoxes as well as possible solutions and ways to prevent them from undermining philosophical theorizing.
How to apply: Application is open to graduate students and early career researchers. Please send a copy of your CV, a one-page motivation letter and a reference letter from a supervisor or colleague to paradox.summerschool(a)usi.ch
Accepted participants will have the opportunity to send a short abstract for consideration to present some of their research at the summer school.
